Fastest way to move XML document into and back out of CLR function
In SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005, what is the fastest way to pass
an xml data type variable into a C# CLR function and retrieve it back out of
the C# CLR function when the C# CLR function is done modifying it?
I tried this but get deployment error becuase SQLServer2005/CLR dotn support
System.Xml.XmlDocument:
public partial class UserDefinedFunctions
{
[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction]
public static int InsertSomeNode(System.Xml.XmlDocument pDoc)
{
//
return 1;
}
};
thorws error:
Error 1 Column, parameter, or variable #1: Cannot find data type
XmlDocument. InsertSomeNodeHi
the SQL XML datatype is a SqlXml type in the System.Data.SqlTypes namespace.
There is no .NET equivalent see
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms131092.aspx

Fast question
I want to build an application (in visual basic) using the MSDE, and sell it
to thirds. What should i do for make it legally? I have licenses for visual
basic, but as far i know, I can redistribute the MSDE for free. Or I should
sign some agreement, like the Microsoft Agent?
Thank you for your answers and sorry my poor english

Hi
You need a licence for Visual Basic Development Environment, and MSDE can be
distributed freely with a VB application.

Failure to create a Report Project within Visual Studio 2003
VS.NET 2003 installed and I had then installed Sql Reporting Services with
the latest service pack. If I try and then create a reporting project within
a pre-existing solution, it gives me the following error.
Class already exists.
I looked at the knowledge base and it seems that this behaviour is caused by
a mis-behaving add-in. Subsequently, I disabled all of my add-ins within the
add-in manager and tested again. The problem still exists.
Any other ideas on what I should try?
Thanks,

Darren,
If you try to create a new project from the File menu (choose the
Wizard option for speed) does that create a working report or not?
Andrew Watt
MVP - InfoPath|||Andrew,
Just tried creating a new report project from the file menu and I still get
the same "Class already exists" message. If I look in my local directory
where I'm trying to create the new project, a folder is created there with a
virtually empty .rptproj file with the following contents.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Project xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2000/10/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xsd="">http://www.w3.org/2000/10/XMLSchema">
<DataSources />
<Reports />
</Project>
I can't however, see the project in the solution explorer and it doesn't
seem to be added to the solution file. Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Darren.

This isn't something I have seen before so the following questions are
simply trying to identify more clearly your specific
setup/circumstances.
Can you describe your setup in more detail? Which add-ins do you have?
When did you disable them?
Have you ever (I assume not, but want to be clear) created an RS
report successfully on that machine?
Apart from RS is Visual Studio working normally?

Failure saving package
Hello All,
I have a package in the SQL 2000 environment that works fine. I have migrated this DTS Package to a SSIS Package using the Visual Studio 2005.
After that, i made some changes in this package and now I'm trying to save it but I am facing with this error message below:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
Failure saving package.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Invalid at the top level of the document.
(Microsoft OLEDB Persistence Provider)
Invalid at the top level of the document.

Could someone please help me with this ?
Thanks in advance.

Has anybody seen this issue resolved? I am experiencing the exact same issue.|||hi guys,
Probably not very helpful for you but a few months ago I suffered the same and my solution was make a DTSX from the beginning...
|||That's what I am doing at present but there are a couple of hundred of these that I need to change. If I have to build them all from scratch the project time is going to blow out considerably. The migration is not perfect (as I expected) but it does considerably speed up the conversion process.
The funny thing is that a couple seem to have converted cleanly but the majority haven't.
I will be putting in a support issue with Microsoft and I will report back with any findings.
|||Everybody,
If you have any recordset object exists/present in your migrated DTS workflow, please manually convert those variables datatype into Object (If you are not able to modify the recordset variables, please re-create the variables with Object datatype). After changing all the recordset variables, most probabily you should be able to save the migrated SSIS workflow.
Thanks.

Great catch. Thanks for responding to this.
|||I've finished my testing and this has defintely resolved my problem. I also updated my MS support issue with this information so hopefully a KB article and a fix in a future SP will be forthcoming.|||Thank you! It helps!Failure saving package
